Henry blasts Domenech set-up

Tadpole's Excrement
Quote:

Thierry Henry has been quoted as giving a stinging assessment of France's international set-up to manager Raymond Domenech.

The Barcelona striker is one of the most senior members of Les Bleus' squad after making 112 appearances and scoring 49 goals.

But with France looking set for a play-off for the 2010 World Cup, as they trail first-placed Serbia by four points in Group 7, Henry has sounded his concerns.

The former Arsenal star is said to have held a meeting with Domenech at a training camp last Friday where he was highly critical of methods and organisation.

Henry is quoted by Le Parisien as saying at the meeting: "Coach, we have something to tell you. I am speaking in the name of the squad.

Bored
"We are getting bored during your training sessions. In 12 years with the French team, I have never been in such a situation.

"We do not know how to play, where to be on the pitch, how to organise. We do not know what to do. We have no style, no guidelines. It is not working."

France drew 1-1 with Romania on Saturday and face Serbia on Wednesday, with Henry confessing he and his team-mates are likely to finish second.

But the forward is not throwing in the towel, saying: "We are disappointed that we only got one point from a very good match from the French team (against Romania).

"We have to win our last three matches. It won't be easy in Serbia. Even if we win there, the Serbs will remain one point in front of us.

"If we can't reach first position, we will have to secure second. We will try to reach that first place, even if second seems more likely."

about time to, Domenech is a joke and i'm surprised his lasted so long, should've left after the last world cup

Sounds bad and like Domenech isn't doing what he's paid to do. But it was always going to be a struggle for France when they lost so many world class players around the same time. It's unusual for a team to have that many top notch players al lat once.

They still have a great team though. Under the right management they'd go very very far inthe WC.

It's not as good as it was though and probably lacks leaders and it sounds like it as well if they don't know what they are doing on the pitch.

I'm not so sure, of those players who's really achieved anything at club level? The majority have under achieved for club and country and most important of all wheres the creativity in midfield? France have looked for a while like they're in transition with Spain taking over as the centre of footballing talent.

Henry won the treble at Barca last year, titles at Arsenal
Benzema 2 French League titles, POTY in France
gourcuff POTY in France and a league title
Anelka; PL title, FA Cup (2), CL title
Evra: Titles at Utd, CL
Gallas: League titles at Chelsea
Ribery: League titles in Germany

Creativity comes from Gourcuff and Ribery...

There's probably more creativity from midfield now that Makelele and Vieira have retired.

Come on Can7ona you can't start quoting trophies for these players cos they dont reflect individual ability or achievements (otherwise you could start naming any old tat from Lyon). Not only that but french league titles dont count for much anyway. As for Anelka whats he done recently - even if we go back over the last 5 years through all his clubs back to Man City he's been far too inconsistent. And same with Ribery wheres he excelled? And neither have ever performed for their country. OK Evra, Henry and Gallas have proven quality UNLIKE all the other names you've mentioned but thats 3 players. When you compare the quality of the players in the France starting 11 to those that came through to the 1st team 13-14 years ago there's little comparison - hence why I think theyre in transition. There are some youngsters coming through who will be phenominal in a year or two but Domenech doesnt benefit from having them now.
